This book is written from the perspective of a daughter who finds out in early adulthood that her father is gay. Though she becomes aware of this fact it is something that is kept a secret and nobody in the family talks about it. This book is really illustrating some possible consequences of living a lie. Her father stays married to her mother (who knows that he is gay also) until her death many, many years later and they have four children together. One of the touching things about the book is that her parents really do love each other. They are supportive and kind to each other but her father doesn't love her mom in a romantic way. I don't want to give away too much of the book but I found it sad that he was born at a time when being gay was a criminal act. He was unable to be his true self. I am thankful that we live in a time when the LGBTQ community is accepted by most people and that people are able to be their authentic selves without fear of persecution.
