Author, Laura Hall, has an interesting story to tell in "Affliction". I really enjoyed her style of writing. Easy to read, no huge works to look up. Conversationally it flowed.

I also enjoyed the pictures throughout the book, instead of shoved in the middle like most book do.

What I didn't care for was the over telling of how her parents met. The magic moment was written about six times. That I can now tell the story. I really only needed it once. I know it was special. It just seemed crammed down our throats.

I also wish it had more of the other siblings point of view, once they found out about Dad. Laura's thoughts are good, but because of the title I thought we'd get everyone's point of view. For example: when Dad moved into assisted living and he did not use any pictures of his family. What did the son, Tim, think. Or sister, Caroline, think. Did they have the same point of view as author, Laura?

The story does shine a light on how people can be mistreated just for being their true self.
