So first off, I'm not sure how I feel about the almost gloom-and-doom way Laurie approaches flashbacks about her father's sexuality. His absence on Saturday, for example, is described in terms that make me think that there is some awful reason for it. The likely reason is probably harmless but perhaps her memories make it seem serious. And the way her mother taunts her father in the retelling of their romance - did the mother know from that first date at the dance that Laurie's father was gay? Regardless, I'm still interested and want to know. Did Mom know all along? Or did she find out later in the marriage about her husband's sexuality? And how did it affect Laurie's relationship with her father? What about the other kids? Either way, I want to continue reading this book and know the answers to my questions.
