i loved the synopsis for this book and was super interested in reading it! it centers around two black highschoolers in an all-white school, where the rich, elite, and powerful attend. it is their senior year, and the main girl character, chiamaka, has been head girl for all four. devon, on the other hand, is suddenly made a prefect and isn't sure how.
chiamaka has a perfect life on the outside, as she has top grades, a best friend, and a bright future instead of her. she wants to go premed at yale, her dream school, and will stop at nothing to get there. devon wants to pass the year under the radar and continue playing music.
unfortunately, neither of their plans work. the aces, an anonymous organization, sends texts to the entire student body that targets chiamaka and devon. they send pictures of private photos and dark secrets that they both worked hard to keep hidden.
chiamaka and devon can only trust each other, as they are the only ones being suspected. chiamaka is determined to get to the bottom of this and find who's been sabotaging her perfect senior year. together, they find clues and bring up possible suspects.
the mystery and suspense kept me intrigued and i finished the book really quickly. the book tackles important topics in today's society, such as racism, homophobia, and white supremacy. the author brings the topics in and we can really see the issues by reading from the character's povs.
overall, i really loved this book, especially chiamaka! she's not perfect, but she's strong and smart and doesn't let anything get in her way. the ending of the book really tied it all up, and it was great. i would recommend this book to anyone looking for a ya thriller!
