I related to Devon so much while reading this story. As someone who deals with anxiety issues I understand all to well about burying things deeply in the boxes in my head. Out of the two main characters, I think Devon was the better developed. He is from a not great area of town and attends Niveus High on a scholarship. He is quiet and sticks to himself and his one friend, Jake. You can tell that he is not all the way comfortable with himself yet and that could be due to the fact that he’s gay. The way Faridah Abike-Iyimide wrote Ace of Spades is clever and quickly drags you down into a rabbit hole leaving you wanting more and more. This had my heart beating so fast at times and left my head spinning with questions upon questions. I really love how Faridah Abike-Iyimide incorporated LGBTQ relationships into this book, it didn't seem forced but rather to be natural and helped make me love the characters even more.
