I really enjoyed Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé. Honestly, I wasn't really sure what to expect but it really drew me in and kept me guessing. It was definitely dark academia (which I am really into right now) mixed with strong social commentary ala Get Out. Definitely far-fetched in some areas, but that was ok with me. The character development was pretty good as well - I really understood both Devon and Chiamaka characters' intentions and they were both so different; the variety was really well done and kept me reading.

I think the ending was tied up too quickly though, I think there could have been a stronger ending - either something so farcical or something more emotionally churning. I docked a star for this. All in all though, I would definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next book from Àbíké-Íyímídé.
