Wow, this book was really something else. When I say that I couldn’t put it down, I am saying that literally not figuratively. I couldn’t stop reading it once I reached a certain point. I set it down long enough to eat and that’s it.

Devon and Chiamaka are both chosen as senior prefects, this is a huge deal at their school. No one is surprised that Chiamaka is chosen because she comes off as the perfect student. Everyone seems shocked that Devon is chosen, especially Devon. Devon is a scholarship student.

It’s worth noting that they are the only two Black students at school. I didn’t realize that until the book told me so.

When they both get chosen as prefect, very bad things start happening. Every dark and dirty secret they have ever had starts being exposed.
Very quickly, Devon is outed to the entire school.
Chiamaka’s perfect image is tainted.

Things elevate to an absolutely crazy (and incredibly page turning) matter. Suddenly, Chi and Devon are unable to trust anyone around them except each other.

It’s fair to see a comparison to Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars here but this is a lot heavier.

I was absolutely shocked to get to the end of this novel and read the author’s note and discover how young she was when she wrote this, this is her first book! I have a feeling this will be made into a movie.

My only hesitation in giving this such a high rating was because it made me so very sad for Chi and Devon sometimes. And I can’t help but take into account how a book made me feel when I read it. But this was an incredible book and I was completely obsessed with finishing it today.

I also want to say that all of the animals in the book are safe. I worried about the two cats mentioned but no harm came to them, thank goodness.
