Ace of Spades is the perfect pick for anyone craving a solid YA dark academia read! It is often compared to Gossip Girl - and I can back up that reference. However, even though it borrowed elements from popular stories like Gossip Girl, Ace of Spades still maintained incredibly unique and engaging elements.
This book really brought me into the immersive world of a prestigious private school, and I appreciate Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé for crafting incredible characters. I felt immediate connections with Devon, Chiamaka and the rest - and their unique personalities and voices really drew me into the story. The author did a stunning job of naturally weaving in topics of inequality, racism, and so much more throughout this story. I have to say, it took much darker twists and turns than I initially expected going in, but that made this book even more memorable and impressive for me.
