Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé sets the intrigue immediately when suddenly a nobody is selected as a Senior Perfect in a group full of blond hair, blue eyes clones. Having no idea how he was selected, Devon finds himself excited for the chance at valedictorian, as well as the boost to his college applications. However, not used to the attention, Devon starts to freak out until he is able to once again find peace in his music.
Chiamaka, on the other hand, is Head Prefect, and the normal popular girl who knows how to play the system. She expects everything to go her way.
It is interesting to see the contrast between the two main characters, especially as we get the first person perspective which allows us to see more directly into their thoughts. I am excited to see what happens next.
