I don’t read true crime because it glorifies criminals and reinjures victims. But something compelled me to read the first look of A Tangled Web by Leslie Rule on BookishFirst months ago.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered the crimes featured in this book occurred in Omaha, Nebraska - my city! I know bad things can and do happen everywhere, but I was shocked to learn how a casual online dating connection in our relatively small Midwestern city resulted in murder, cyberstalking, and other crimes. It was wild to read about places and people with which I’m familiar, especially in the context of this story.

Without the local connection, I wouldn’t have finished this because the writing was underdeveloped and included far too many exclamation points. Perhaps that’s common in the style of this genre. I'm grateful to BookishFirst for introducing me to and providing a review copy of A Tangled Web.
