I was drawn in immediately from the first words of this excerpt, but I was also turned off a bit by some of the word choices. Things just felt a little off. I'm not sure I'd want to read the entire thing. It's also not my usual fare so perhaps others won't be bothered and will appreciate it more than me. I do like the cover - it's very striking. It makes me think of L.A.
