"A Sparkle of Silver" started out strong with characters I wanted to get to know and a mystery that had me curious. I enjoyed the use of the diary and letters as a way to discover what happened in the past. I liked how the author used them to bring history to life for the reader and the present-day characters without a direct narrative of the past.

However, about half way through the story lost steam and started to fall flat. Millie and Ben took much too long to get to the next clue and the narrative went from fairly consistent action and romance to multiple chapters where nothing much happened either to move the mystery along or the romance between the characters. We maybe got to know Millie and Ben a little better in those chapters, but in a way that felt like stopping the story narrative to learn more about them rather than moving it forward at the same time.

I did enjoy the ending and I thought the last several chapters were a great conclusion to the mystery and the story. At the end, I enjoyed the book but I'm not sure I would continue to read more books in this series.
