I wanted to like this book I really did. The book is about Millie trying to save her grandmother from being kicked out of her place in an adult care home. Her grandmother has dementia and mentions a treasure from the past that may belong to them. I thought it could be an interesting adventure between past and present. It was not. It was very very repetitive with very little happening. 200 pages in and I still felt like I didn't get anywhere. I get it, you don't have money for your grandmother, you need this money, you wish you had money. It's like every other page you're reminded of what you already know. Somehow Millie picks up Ben in her search to help her along. If you thought their romance would redeem this novel you would be grossly mistaken. Maybe it's the writing style, I'm not sure, but even the romance fell flat. You knew from the moment they meant the author was going to put them together which is fine but there was no chemistry, not much banter, nothing to build the romance aside for the author telling you it was happening and then it took forever for anything to even happen! It just felt so childish. She had Millie talking to herself "no you don't like him!" and freaking out over what if they kissed and it was a bad kiss. It just all turned me off and I no longer cared about the treasure, their romance or what would happen to her grandmother. Fair warning, save your time from this read.
