I have to admit that the cover made me want to read this novel; and after finishing, the use of colors and paint brush strokes perfectly symbolize the meaning I took from reading it.

Even though I had a difficult time caring for Aria, I did understand how she was still struggling with finding out who she is and who she wanted to be. The past mistakes she made upended her life and sent her down a completely unexpected path, but a path that ultimately led her to explore more future possibilities for herself in her education and sexual orientation.

I enjoyed how Aria and her parents' relationships evolved and grew once each side realized they needed to be honest and communicate openly with one another. And I loved Aria's grandmother Joan so much! She cared deeply for her family and opened her home to Aria when she needed help. Joan never restricted Aria from her freedoms to live as she chose, but instead supported and encouraged Aria to explore her options and take opportunities.

The novel is well-paced and the use of symbolism and metaphors made me a huge fan of this author's writing.
