This was a really interesting book as I don’t see a lot of historical fiction based in the 2010s. However as we move forward in time it seems inevitable that we would see a historical fiction novel that take places during a time that many young adults and teenagers know remember or grew up in. And this book did not disappoint. The story discusses love and friendships as well as self discovery. I really thought the characters in this book were fleshed out and I enjoyed the story and It’s connection to The author’s precious work ( though i don’t feel you have to have read her last book to fully understand this new book). This book reminds us both of how far we have come in such a short time in terms of lgbt+ rights and how we still have some way to go. This book is perfect for anyone who has read Malinda Lo’s previous books or any reader of diverse historical fiction.
