A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy was a pleasant surprise of a book. I read a ton of YA Fantasy so a lot of the books tend to blur together for me. But this book stands out and every time I see my copy on the shelves I actually vividly remember the story.

Most YA Fantasy have some sort of surprise element where our main character ends up having some hidden power or secret back story and that is just the norm for this genre but it's very rare that you have a book where the character finds out shes a completely different race than what shes been told her entire life.

Aside from that, the sisters complicated relationship was very interesting. Sadly, this is also a normal for a lot of Fantasy books, sisters hating each other when they used to have nothing but love. Either way, I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
