A River of Royal Blood is filled with a strong world building and various elements of magic. It’s was enjoyable to have the perspective of a strong female main character whose view points are intriguing. Watching her deal with her magical issues, cold family members, and a court that constantly underestimated her was nice. The rivalry between the two sisters and their destiny of having to battle to the death was interesting. Although it was interesting and had all these great things going for it, unfortunately in the end I found the ending a bit predictable. Eva was build up to be strong and strong minded, but I saw her final decision as cowardly and something that will definitely come back and haunt her in the next book. I understand it ended the way it did so that there could be a sequel, but I wasn’t a fan of the ending.

Overall I enjoyed the world building, the fantasy, the political tensions, and the different influences that the courts held between the different types of “folk” who inhabit the lands. It was just the last 50 or so pages that disappointed me and caused me to lower my rating of this book.
