Thanks to all of the black lives matter promotion lists for black authors, I found this amazing book. Somehow I missed it on bookish!
This book blew me away. I was worried the plot would be familiar because it is based on rival sisters fighting for powerful.
HOWEVER. The plot was amazing. The characters were so well written that it almost felt like two different authors wrote the characters. The magic is beautiful and I love the ties to ancestry. It also wasn't your standard earth/air/water/fire.
I don't want to spoil anything here but Eva has the prophesized magic of marrow and blood, hinting that she will be the rightful queen. But she needs to battle her sister, Isa, to the death. Because there can only be one queen.
This book needs more hype because it deserves it. It is solid, African inspired fantasy and I'm excited for the rest of the series.
