A River of Royal Blood was an okay young adult fantasy. The writing and the overall story was well done. It kept me interested throughout the story, but definitely could use a little more umph! There were a couple points were the plot was kind of flat and probably could have used more buildup and description of what was happening, especially towards the climax of the story.
The characters were interesting! Several different character types were included and all had a decent character background and personalities. The main character Eva developed throughout the story as she learned her own magic and some of her family history.
Overall, it was an enjoyable story, but I probably wouldn't read it again.
