First, let me say that I absolutely love the cover. The illustrator did a phenomenal job capturing the intensity of the characters on the cover and really conveying that there is a battle for power within the story. Both people look powerful and fierce.
The prologue for this story was intense and very well executed. The author didn't hesitate to begin building the world of this story and introducing the reader to all or the magical elements. While some concepts such as the sibling rivalry are typical of fictional novels, the author did a good job of making it her own and did so while having more than one strong female character. I like the pacing of the story and felt it flowed nicely. Enjoyed the excerpt.
