To start, I do not typically read a lot of fantasy. I at times feel that my brain is not wired for it and tend to favor those that are heavy on being more realistic with fantastical elements.

However, for this story specifically, I loved the plot of rival sisters. This plot point allows for many different themes to be explored. And I loved reading how Eva and Isa used to be close but drifted apart as they were forced to be pitted against each other. While I feel like their relationship could have been explored further, it was overall well-executed and that aspect lived up to my expectations.

Although the mix of magic and lore was fun, it was not as detailed as I would have liked. The first half of the book was rather slow, and I found myself not connecting to the characters. While the ending was much more interesting, the overall story left me wanting more.
