This book was a stunning entrée by Amanda Joy into the world of YA. For a debut novel it was unique, interesting and contained a very 'more-ish' feel which had me staying up until the wee hours reading with a furious pace. The characters, although perhaps in need of some development were interesting and captivating to imagine. The visual storytelling that occurred brought me to Myre and had me constantly enthralled. The plot was unique, and exiting throughout. Despite being fast paced it did include many scenes of character development and emotional growth. In itself, the book was a successful debut, and managed to conjure a bright and living world. Although it was hard to discern where the Northern African part of the book came in, seemingly only to be referenced with Kohl and other weak nods to NA culture, it seems it would have worked well as just a general fantasy.
