So I just finished reading Kingdom of Souls a few days ago so this was definitely giving me similar vibes that I couldn't ignore. Especially when I read the synopsis. However this one had a more classic Western epic fantasy feeling. I didn't feel the West African influence quite yet beyond the blood and bone reference and the setting feeling very much Egypt inspired. There's something about the way that Amanda Joy describes each sensation from the noise around them to the scents in the air that makes me want to read more. And the magic characters she described are much different than anything I've read in YA epic fantasy lately. There was a little bit of info dump in these first few chapters but that's to be expected in YA Fantasy as the plot is being set up. This preview ended on a cliffhanger and I'm interested in reading what happens next.
