This book contains several elements which make it different from many of the other fantasy books I've seen lately. For one, there are more than just humans or fey which is intriguing. It seems that many authors shy away from making different types of people beyond their personalities, and I like that this author has embraced a mix of races. Then the different types of magic and the fact that royal siblings have to kill each other to take the throne adds additional levels of intrigue.
The writing is a bit flat in this book though, and I found my attention wandering through this short portion of the story. It may be best to wait until the final editing is done, but I'm interested enough in where this story is going that I would read the advanced copy as well.
