Told from the perspectives of three family members, A Nearly Normal Family, is an intense and gripping look at what we will do to keep our families safe.
When his daughter Stella is accused of murdering an older man, Adam Sandell is convinced that she is innocent. Believing that the police aren’t investigating as thoroughly as they should, Adam takes matters into his own hands by questioning Stella’s friends and the ex-girlfriend of the murdered man.
Stella Sandell, accused of murdering her boyfriend, knows what really happened. Events from Stella’s past and her love for her friends and family keep her silent. With a rocky school record and a history of outbursts and fights, Stella’s past paints her as a likely suspect.
Ulrika Sandell, powerful and highly respected lawyer, knows exactly what the right lawyer to defend her daughter and develops a plan to get her out of jail. But with evidence against Stella mounting, can the family keep their secrets from spilling out and hurting Stella’s case even more?
Oh, Reader Friends, this book is explosive! The last half of this book had my shoulders in knots and I stress ate way too many pita chips. I really loved how the book was told from each of the viewpoints of the dad, the daughter, and the mom. Each perspective provided just a little more information without proving Stella’s guilt or innocence. Set in Sweden, it also provided a very interesting look into their legal system. Living in the rural U.S., biking from one person’s house to another just isn’t done so it was interesting to read about how different city life is in Lund. I don’t want to risk giving anything away, but if you enjoy stories about family secrets, true friendships, and legal thrillers, then this is the book for you.
