This is a story about The Sandells, a Swedish family who is faced with the unthinkable when Stella, the 18 year-old daughter is accused of murder. A seemingly โnormalโ family on the outside, The Sandells are all hiding something, but what is it exactly? The story explores the lengths a people will go to protect those they love. Of course, we want to know who the killer is too, right? We donโt find out who until the last sentence of the entire book! Donโt go peeking and ruining it for yourself though. This one is totally worth the wait.
I loved the unique format of this book. Itโs told in three parts, each being the point of view of a different character. Each one walks us through their version of events and itโs so interesting to how much they all are hiding from each other. SO. MANY. SECRETS.
I also found the legal aspect of this story to be super intriguing. I love legal thrillers and this one doesnโt disappoint. It sounds like court proceedings in Sweden are very different than what we are used to in America... there is no jury!
Added bonus - Reading books plays a significant part in this story. When talking about books, Stella says โI long for something that can kidnap my
mind for awhile. Iโm so tired of myself.โ I totally read to escape my own mind so this quote really resonated with me! Oh, if you havenโt read some of the classics like The Bell Jar, Catcher in the Rye, and Crime and Punishment, beware of spoilers! Donโt say I didnโt warn you!
