This book was surprisingly good. I had never heard of the title before it was selected as a read for a book club challenge I’m participating in. First of all, it was interesting seeing some of the differences and similarities between the Swedish justice system and that of the United States. The characters were very well developed, and I found myself understanding each of their perspectives. When it comes to the justice system, so many people view it as black and white. There is wrong, and there is right. In reality, everything is a big blur. In the case of the murder this book revolves around, there were so many different perspectives and issues that I both wanted Stella convicted, but also released. My heart ached for Stella’s parents. Though at the same time, I couldn't help but feel their parenting and lack of care for issues in their daughter’s past all led up to this life changing event. I could not imagine watching my child on trial for murder and could completely understand why her mother, a lawyer, makes the choices she does throughout the book. Sometimes there is more to the story than right and wrong.
