Stella is eighteen years old and on trial for murdering her boyfriend. But what really happened that night?
We start with seeing this story from Stella’s fathers point of view. Him buying Stella a Vespa for her birthday instead of the money she wanted for her upcoming trip to Asia. Dad worried about Stella and then later lies to the cops. He’s a pastor and he told the cops she got home before midnight when it was really 2 in the morning.
Then we go to Stella when she’s in jail preparing for her trial. Flashbacks of what led up to this and her relationship with the guy who is now dead are shown as well as her relationship with her best friend, Amina.
We see the trial through her mother’s eyes. We learn how Amina went to her as a lawyer and a friend to tell her what happened that night. But, is Amina telling her everything? She has to trust that she is as she plots how they should play it at the trial.
Lies, betrayal, murder, and the bonds of family. This book is told in a great way, we come at it from different angles without jumping around all the way through. We learn how far parents will go to protect their daughter. Is Stella a murderer? Find out in this wickedly dark story!
