The Sandell family is perfectly ordinary- mom Ulrika is a lawyer; dad Adam is a pastor; daughter Stella is a semi-rebellious eighteen year old, but everyone is shocked when she is charged with murder. As the trial begins, the seemingly average family begins to crack and shatter. How far will parents go to protect a child? And how much do they really know about her?

This Swedish-based thriller had me on the edge of my seat until the final page. All three members of the family narrate sections of the book, each more unreliable than the last. Told in present day and in flash backs, the reader questions the motives for the parents to defend their daughter- is it because she is truly innocent? Or are they really just protecting their own image?
