Set in Lund, Sweden, eighteen-year-old Stella Sandell is accused of murdering 32-year-old Christopher Olsen. Stella’s father, a local pastor, and her mother, Ulrika, a criminal defense attorney, have their moral values tested as the defend their daughter against a murder case. The book is split up into three sections, each articulating the perspective of each family member. A NEARLY NORMAL FAMILY asks the questions: How well do you know your own children? And how far would you go to protect them? Edvardsson’s novel is a highly-anticipated read for the summer, and is officially released tomorrow, June 25, in the United States!⁣

I can’t figure if thriller books aren’t my thing (I have a tendency to constantly guess the ending instead of enjoying the book for what it is) or if the thrillers I have read recently are just less than great. Unpopular opinion alert! This book was unfortunately not my jam. While I really enjoyed the multiple perspectives, the novel seemed to drag out a bit longer than necessary and was definitely a struggle to plow through. The dialogue itself is pretty crude, but it’s very possible that this is the result of the book being translated into English from Swedish. I enjoyed the plot of A NEARLY NORMAL FAMILY, but the writing style just didn’t really vibe with me personally. That said, give the book a chance if you a big fan of thrillers!⁣
