This was a fantastic read. I’m a fan of Scandinavian noir, and this fits right in with some of my other favorites. It reminded me quite a bit of Defending Jacob (which I LOVED), although it was in no way derivative. I particularly enjoyed how the author showed restraint in crafting the teenage main characters (Stella and her best friend). They had some typical teenage angst and issues, but these were subtle and not overdone. The characters and their struggles were all relatable. The plot and pacing were strong. I enjoyed how much the setting played such a role in the story. Frequently in suspense and thrillers the setting is so secondary that it receives little focus and attention, but that wasn’t the case here.

I received a free advanced copy from the publisher, but this did not affect my review.
