I enjoyed this book a lot. It was a great look into a type of magic I had never read about before. I knew nothing about using tea for magic so it was refreshing to read something different for once.

Ning travels to a tea making competition after accidentally brewing a poison that killed her mother and threatens her sister’s life. She hopes that by winning the competition she can find a way to save her sister.

The book takes us through perseverance, friendship, and betrayal. Someone wants to influence the outcome of the competition, but it’s hard to figure out who. I held my breath multiple times in this book wondering if Ning would move on in the competition and worrying about whether one of her new friends would betray her.

I’m really looking forward to reading the next book to see how Ning’s adventure continues after the way this book ended.
