A New Vibrant story with a strong heroine
I loved this book and the rich storyline. The concept of the art of tea serving was a new idea to me. Ning serves a poisonous tea that kills her mother and threatens the life of her sister. She travels to enter a competition of tea making in hopes of saving her sister.
The initial concept of the storyline was good but was slow moving at points. Many ideas were started but not finished. The romance with the love interest was a bit boring and needs to be jazzed up a bit.
I think this is still a good book especially for YA readers and we definitely need more strong Asian female leads in books. This book is a great start with Ning. Her journey to save her sister and thus show her abilities of being a great tea maker is a whole new storyline. I think it is a very original story that will captivate a wide audience. I will definitely recommend it to my students and buy a copy for our school library.
