Looking at the average rating and the ratings my Goodreads friends gave the book, I'm completely in the minority when I regrettably say: I was not impressed.
I got the book in my May Book of the Month box and was super excited to read it. The cover (which I only recently realized HAS TWO FACES ON IT!) immediately grabbed my attention. However, the story unfortunately did not. The book is just shy of 400 pages and it took me getting to around page 300 before I became invested in the story and characters. I just feel like the author over complicated the story and just added too much information. There was the primary plot of Amanda's death, but then there was also the secondary plot of the school's system being hacked. It all ties together in the end, but it just seemed like too much.
Now I will say the ending was really good. If you're able to put together what happened before it was revealed, then you are truly a master at thrillers! Kimberly McCreight does do a great job at throwing in twists and turns, which made the ending better.
I really wanted to like this book. I did. I've seen so many people say they absolutely loved it... but it just wasn't for me.
