When Zach is thrown in jail at Rikers for assaulting a police officer, it's clear to him he will soon also be charged with his wife's murder. After his failed arraignment with a public defender and his bail is denied, Zach finally snaps out of his daze and calls his old law school friend, Lizzie. Zach remembers Lizzie's tenacity and intelligence from law school and knows she's the only one who will believe in him and have what it takes to prove his innocence.

Lizzie has recently left the US Attorney's Office and is now in big law, a place she never thought she'd find herself. After some poor decisions made by her alcoholic husband, Lizzie was forced to leave a job she loved to take on a job that paid. When Zach calls her begging for her help, Lizzie is certain her firm will never go for it which is why she agrees to meet with Zach and help him find a more suitable lawyer. Lizzie knows that her new firm doesn't allow associates to take on their own cases, and typically, the firm avoids anything as scandalous as a possible murder. But when Lizzie presents the case to her boss, his interest is piqued for his own personal reasons, and he allows her to take it on.

As Lizzie looks into the brutal murder, details about sexual abuse, key parties (look that up!), adults behaving badly, shady business deals, and lying spouses start to color the investigation. Is Zach innocent? Is something more sinister going on in this rich community? Is Lizzie more connected to the situation than she realizes? Who can she trust?

This novel is told from multiple perspectives over the course of two weeks. It had me on the edge of my seat and I read nearly the entire book in one day. It is full of surprises and plot twists you won't see coming. Even though the novel wasn't entirely realistic (particularly concerning the legal aspects) and I was left with some lingering questions, I really loved this book and it's one I absolutely recommend.
