When the book opens with a call from prison, I am instantly drawn in and want to know what happened and what is going to happen.
This book was told in alternating point of view between Lizzie, an attorney who gets that phone call from her old law school friend, Zach, and Amanda, Zach’s wife who was found dead. The before timeline told by Amanda and the After timeline told by Lizzie flowed very well and kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.
Zach obviously had secrets, but Lizzie and Amanda did too. I don’t always like a book with an unreliable character but Kimberly McCreight did an excellent job with this story. The twists were great, fooled me, and I can usually guess.
The grand jury testimony and the school notices were great added touches. Highly recommend.
