High Society, Getting High at Parties, and High Stakes Crime

Wow, this crime story seems to have it all. High society (but not so wealthy that it seems unbelievable) with some parties where alcohol flows easily and so do physical attractions. The combination leads to high-stakes crime: a husband accused of murder. When he calls a friend from college days, she just wants his request for legal representation to go away. Why did he call her?
