I haven't read a pirate book since ...I don't think i've ever read a pirate book! I'm not much of a reader who reads about sailing, but I was very excited to read a Clash of Steel since an Asian retelling of Treasure Island sounded both intriguing and fun. The book is written so beautifully and felt like a painting of words. It was a bit slow in some parts, which is bothersome at times, since it's supposed to be more of an adventure, but I feel like it was to help with the portrayal of Asian cultures more than anything. As an Asian person, representation means a lot to me. The romance was cute and sweet and the depiction of their love was top notch.

I felt that the author end notes was icing on top of the whole picture as it explains where a lot of the story was influenced from and some histories. As a daughter of someone who came over on a boat because of the Vietnam War, it spoke to me about the trials and tribulations!
