This book was a lot of fun. It is a retelling of Treasure Island set in 1800s Asia. I really enjoyed the protagonists and the setting, it added a fresh take on the original tale. Female pirates! Xiang is a great protagonist to follow, I loved seeing her growth over the book and throughout her adventure. Also, it is rare now a days to find a standalone fantasy book, let alone one that feels wholly satisfying. But this one did a great job of creating a fantasy world and an adventure plot that felt complete. And who doesn't love a good treasure hunt? The writing and twists kept me engaged in the story. The end of every chapter made me want to continue into the next. I am so happy that I got the opportunity to read this book, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys YA fantasy novels (especially with a historical tilt to it). I'm interested to see what else this author has written!
