An Amazing Retelling

I originally was scared to read this book. I hate, and I mean hate, Treasure Island. Robert Louis Stevenson is one of my least favorite authors on the planet and Treasure Island is my least favorite book of his.

However, a friend convinced me to read this book because the main couple was a sapphic couple, and it was enough to pique my interest enough to put my distaste for Treasure Island aside. And I have never been so glad to put aside my hate for something in my life, because I loved A Clash of Steel.

Even though this was a YA novel, the amount of romantic tension between the two main characters was enough to make me frustrated on their behalf. And I just loved that the "there's only one bed" trope was used, I hardly ever see it used with not straight couples and it was just so wonderful to read.

Because this is a Treasure Island "remix", it is important to know that this is a pirate book, but it isn't a traditional pirate book because it - in the vein of Iron Widow - takes a very famous woman in history, and just plops her into the story in a way that does not feel out of place.

I have never read anything else by C.B. Lee, but now I might have to change that. All in all, I highly recommend this book!
