A Clash of Steel opens with a prologue set in 1818 on the South China Sea, during a bad storm. Then the reader jumps ahead to 1826 in the Guangdong province in China. That first chapter is told in the first-person perspective, which I expect will stay for the rest of the book. The writing is very descriptive.
The cover is cute; it reminds me of fairytales and children's books from when I was growing up. I think it could be a bit more modern but overall works.
