I enjoyed the first portion with Anh and the immediacy of the action. I preferred the third person narration, so it was jarring when the next section not only switched to first person narration and Xiang's story rather than Anh. Hopefully, once the two unite we will get a unified narrative voice, and hopefully third person. I enjoy the promise of action and intrigue, but I am anxious to meet this Pirate Queen, so hopefully some of the exposition will be sprinkled into the text so the main sequence can begin sooner.
This sample has me curious, but not completely sold. It does, however make me want to read Treasure Island, as I read it so long ago I don't remember it. And if this new text can bring new readers back to the Classic text, that alone would make it a success!
