I really liked the glimpse into the lives of both of the main characters. With Anh's chapter, we get to see her relationship with her mother and brother. Because she is so young, I would definitely be interested to see how it changes with time (since the book is taking place 8 years after the prologue). I also appreciated getting a quick background on the Dragon Fleet that doesn't feel like an info-dump. I also want to see what character in Treasure Island Anh is meant to parallel.
I also already enjoyed the character of Xiang. She definitely reminds me of Jim Hawkins from Treasure Island. I like that she isn't satisfied with her place in the world, but she doesn't seem too whiny or bratty about it. I like her voice and would be interested to see how she progresses as a character.
