loooooved it!
After Lan's father passed away, she has been by her mother's side and working in their bánh mì stall in Sài Gòn. When she isn't working, Lan writes a food blog, called A Bánh Mì for Two, in both Vietnamese and English about all of the delicious foods in Vietnam. She has big dreams, but for now, she will help take care of her mom and their food stall.
Vivi, a Vietnamese American, wants to learn more about her parents' home country, but they barely talk about their homeland. While reading the A Bánh Mì for Two food blog, she is inspired to just go over there with her best friend and tell her parents that she is studying abroad in Indonesia.
When Vivi arrives in Vietnam, she wonders if she will ever find more information about her parents. The only clue she has are pictures of her mom in Vietnam and that's it. Luckily, Vivi and her friend are fueled by all the great foods in Vietnam, especially a bánh mì stall that is right across from where they are staying.
One day, Vivi goes to the local park and comes across a journal. Could this be the journal that the A Bánh Mì for Two writer jots their notes in? When Lan realizes she has left her journal at the park, she runs for it because that is the last gift that her dad has given her. She notices Vivi with the journal and when Lan tries to get her journal back, Vivi questions Lan if Lan is the blogger behind A Bánh Mì for Two.
Will Lan admit that she is the A Bánh Mì for Two blogger? Will Vivi ever find her mom's hometown in Vietnam and learn more about her parents' background?
This was a super adorable read and will definitely put you in a great mood! The book cover is really cute and the paper edge details were a nice detail. I highly recommend this book for young adults and adults.
